III Eurasian Media Forum opened in Almaty
The III Eurasian Media Forum has opened today, on 22
April, in Almaty. Around 400 journalists, analysts, scientists,
researchers, experts, and politicians from more than 50 world
countries participate in it.
The forum participants will be discussing a number of political,
economic and media subjects for three days. Special attention will
be paid to the coverage of these problems in media.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, president of RK, speaking on freedom of media
in RK at the Forum, stated positive tendencies of mass media
development in Kazakhstan are related with the extension of
activities of public journalist institutions – the Congress and the
Union of Journalists, the Broadcasters Association and others.
The Kazakhstan President also marked that the Constitution Council
on Wednesday recognized a number of norms of the law on the mass
media adopted by the parliament recently are not corresponding to
the Constitution. Thus, this law is not approved by Nursultan
Nazarbayev.
Also, it is planned to discuss the role of media during election
campaigns, the role of international organizations in the recovery
of media structures in conflict countries, the development
tendencies of state, public, and commercial media and problems of
interaction between authorities and journalists, issues of providing
security for journalists and prospects of developing the
entertainment industry in the region.
