According to report of Interfax Kazakhstan agency, high-tranking official of the specialized agency in Kazakhstan sues the representative office of Internews Network.

The court examination of Rakhat Aliyev's lawsuit to the representative office of Internews Network in Kazakhstan took place in Almalinski district court.  The representative office has submitted a petition on non-jurisdiction of examination of the given civil case in the district court.

Rakhat Aliyev was appointed deputy head of the Security service of the President.  The head of the state has conveyed this in his interview.  A little earlier Nursultan Nazarbayev met with Rakhat Aliyev in his palace. The Ministry of culture, information and public consent made an address in regard to situation with the television channel KTK.

Sub-units of the Municipal Department of Internal Affairs of Almaty City are going to establish control over the television tower in Almaty.  Employees of the editorial offices of the newspapers "Karavan" and the television channel "KTK" have created an independent union.

Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan of June 15 2001 # 825 "On approval of Regulations and payment rates to the republican budget of payment for use of radio frequency resource (spectrum) of the Republic of Kazakhstan" is published.

May 4 2001

Corespondents of RFE/RL quoted Kazakhstan Today News Agency, which reported that today, on May 4, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a decree according to which Altynbek Sarsenbayev, who until today was the Kazakh Minister of Culture, Information and Social Concord, was appointed as Secretary of Kazakhstan's Security Council.

February 20 2001

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Centre in Almaty, Kazakhstan welcomes the decision adopted by the Mazhilis (Lower Chamber) of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan at its plenary session on 14 March to return for further elaboration the draft law "On Introducing Amendments into the "Law on Mass Media of the Republic of Kazakhstan"".

An address of NAT Kazakhstan to the Parliament and Government of Kazakhstan, in regard to examination of amendments to the law "On mass media" by the Parliament, was adopted on February 16, 2001 at the meeting of the National Association of Television and Radio Broadcasters of Kazakhstan (NAT Kazakhstan), which was conducted in Almaty.

On February 1 OSCE Centre in Almaty disseminated a press release, in which it welcomed the decision to postpone the discussion in the Parliament of the amendments proposed by the Government of Kazakhstan to the “Law on the Mass Media” and also announced that it supported efforts of civil society on involving as public and wide as possible into discussion of the law that is important for society and the country as a whole.
