International Foundation for protection of freedom of speech “Adil Soz” was established on initiative of number of leaders of non-governmental public associations: president of the Center of public initiatives “Interlegal” S. Zlotnikov, director of the Representative office “Internews Network Kazakhstan” O. Katsiyev, director of the International bureau on human rights and compliance with legality of Kazakhstan E. Zhovtis and president of the Foundation for protection of glasnost of Russia А. Simonov. It has been officially registered as legal entity on April 12, 1999. The president of the foundation is the cofounder of the foundation, the journalist Кaleyeva Tamara Miskhadovna. The objective of creation of International foundation for protection of freedom of speech “Adil Soz” is building open civil society through establishment of open objective and progressive journalism in everyday life of the country. The first principle of the foundation’s work is monitoring of violations of freedom of speech through the correspondent network of the foundation. The foundation’s lawyer carries out legal analysis of information received through the monitoring. The operational analysis of unfavorable, from the legal point of view, situations with particular mass media, allows to select the most effective forms of protection of such mass media and journalists. The monitoring of violations along with its legal analysis is distributed among mass media of the Republic, so the journalists could evaluate their situation in the context of general situation in the country and use legal argumentation of the foundation in its work. Moreover, generalized analysis once a quarter or more allows to follow tendencies of development of freedom of right and define activity plans of the foundation on the level of improving legislation, mass media’s relations with authority branches. Correspondents of the network, after receiving general information on the Republic, can use it during preparation and publication of materials, connected with legal defense of mass media. |
